The Northern Spotted Owl, Strix occidentalis caurina, is one of three Spotted Owl subspecies. A Western North American bird in the family Strigidae, genus Strix, it is a medium-sized dark brown owl sixteen to nineteen inches in length and one to one and one sixth pounds. Females are larger than males. The wingspan is approximately forty two inches.
The worldwide IUCN Red List of Threatened Species status for the Spotted Owl species is Near Threatened with a decreasing population trend.
He/she is lovely, it's a fav You know, it looks very similiar to strix aluco (euroasian tawny owl) (no wonder since they both belong to strigidae family from what I remember). It's widely distributed around Europe (there's even a clan of 'em living in the old cemetary next to my house). Their hoot is so nice, can't ever get enough of it. Is this charcoal or pencil?
